So far, so good!

The new LCC site has been live for two weeks now and it’s so far so good.

The site launched on the 10 November after going through a complete redesign. Months of preparation have lead to what you now see and many of the changes were in response to listening to the needs of Lincolnshire people.

Since the launch comments have been coming in thick and fast,

“We’ve received many compliments about our new site and less than a handful of people have commented adversely about the change. That’s very unusual when you make such radical changes to such a well used site” said Peter Barton, Head of Web and Information Governance.

New Website Launch – Wednesday 10th November

The main Lincolnshire County Council website is set to change tomorrow.

We listened to the comments and ideas you sent to us during the consultation period. We’ve incorporated those ideas (like the use of tabbed pages for example) and added some of our own to ensure you get to the information on the site as quickly and easily as possible.

Look out for a radical new design with features you said you wanted. Like drop down navigation, an improved search, a better and more descriptive A-Z, visitor login for improved access to regularly used information, better use of maps and much more.

During the first few days we shall still be moving information over from the previous site so please bear with us.

We’ll be adding help screens and hints on how to use the site too.

We hope you like the new, cleaner site with fast access to data.

Snippet Five – A-Z

A new and improved A-Z of council services will feature on the new site. It will allow you to find key service information quickly and easily.

As well as gaining key information about a range of council services you will also be able to find out contact details and even a location via a map.

There will also be an A-Z search that makes finding services even easier.

Snippet Four – Your Account page

You now have the ability to register on the new site, in order to gain easy access to site content as well as a range of other things.

It only takes a few moments to do and once you have registered you will be able to:

- Create lists of your favourite pages and discussions
- Sign up to receive newsletters and email alerts
- Create your own profile
- Gain access to private areas if needed

Snippet Three – Your Lincolnshire

Your Lincolnshire is a facility which will allow you to search for location based services.

You can look for your County Councillor, what parish you are in or even who empties your bins, amongst a growing list of postcode centred information.

Snippet Two – Tabs

Tabs will now be used on pages throughout the site in order to group certain types of information together, such as contacts, downloads, links etc

This will enable users to find the type of information they require quickly and easily.

Snippet one – Mega drop-down

A mega drop-down menu will be used on the new site as the main navigation option.

It will improve the speed and usability of the site by cutting out unnecessary levels of navigation, meaning you can find the information you are looking for more easily.

New web site build started this week.

LCC new web pageYesterday the web team started to build the new Lincolnshire County Council web site.

The build is a big project. We are moving content over from the existing site to the new site and updated software. The workload is high, requiring the web team to work 13 hour days for the next 2 weeks at least. We aim to be switching over mid November.

There are lots of new features on this site, some of which are radical and new to Government web sites. You can see here what the front page of the new web site will look like. This image is from the design stage, which started some 15 months ago.The finished article will be pretty close to this, apart from the temporary pictures.

We’ll reveal snippets as we go along so register to receive updates from here on the waistline.

Welcome to the ‘Waistline’ on WordPress.

Welcome to the new home of the ‘Waistline’, the blog of Lincolnshire County Council’s Web and Information Governance team.

We have moved here from Blogger so as to use the added functionality and get access to statistical information to be found within the WordPress platform.

There’s new stuff coming along all the time so keep an eye on the site. In fact you can register to get up dates (over to the right of this panel in a section called ‘email subscription’).

Head of Web and Information Governance.
